Cost depends on capacity, panel and inverter choice, and how much structure work the roof needs. As a reference point, a 3kW residential system typically falls between ₹1,80,000 and ₹2,40,000 before subsidy. Under the current PM Surya Ghar structure, central assistance is up to ₹30,000 for 1kW, ₹60,000 for 2kW and is capped at ₹78,000 for systems of 3kW or above. Delhi's amended policy states a further ₹10,000 per kW up to 3kW, with a ₹30,000 ceiling per eligible consumer.
No. Subsidy is not a discount from Y2 Solar. Eligibility, approved capacity, DCR compliance, commissioning and the actual payment are controlled by the government portal and your DISCOM. You pay for the system, and the assistance is released to you separately once the process completes.
The central household assistance is intended for eligible residential electricity consumers, not routine commercial or industrial projects. Group housing societies and RWA common facilities fall under a separate structure. Eligibility is confirmed against the national portal and your DISCOM record, not by the installer.
As a rule of thumb, each 1kW needs roughly 80–100 sq ft of shadow-free roof. That puts a 3kW system at about 250–300 sq ft, a 5kW system at 400–500 sq ft and a 10kW system at 800–1,000 sq ft. Higher-wattage panels reduce the area needed.
Size the system against your electricity bill and your usable roof area, not against the subsidy ceiling. Extra capacity beyond 3kW does not increase the central household cap. Considerably. Even partial shade from a neighbouring building, tree, water tank or antenna can pull down generation across a string. Identifying shadow patterns through the day is one of the main jobs of the site survey, and it drives where panels are placed and how the structure is designed.
Yes, if the system is designed for it. We build custom galvanised elevated structures and solar pergolas that lift the array high enough to keep the terrace usable underneath for drying, storage or seating. This is planned at survey stage, because it changes the structure design and cost.
We coordinate approvals with BSES — both BRPL and BYPL — and with Tata Power-DDL. The two utilities publish separate customer instructions and portal routes, so the correct consumer number format and submission path are confirmed against your own bill before anything is filed.
Net metering lets surplus daytime generation export to the grid and offset what you draw at night, so it is what makes an on-grid system worth installing. It requires a DISCOM application, a feasibility check and a bidirectional meter. We handle the paperwork and coordination as part of the installation.
Yes. We prepare and track the PM Surya Ghar documentation and the DISCOM net-metering application alongside the installation, and stay involved through inspection and meter change. The approvals themselves sit with the portal and the utility, so timelines are theirs rather than ours.
On-grid uses the grid as its buffer through net metering and gives the best bill savings. Off-grid runs on batteries and suits places where supply is unreliable. Hybrid combines both — solar savings during the day, battery backup at night or during an outage.
A standard on-grid system will not. For safety it shuts down when the grid is down, so it cannot backfeed onto lines someone may be working on. If backup during outages matters to you, a hybrid or off-grid design with battery storage is the right choice.
Only if you want backup. Batteries add meaningful cost and are replaced sooner than panels, so for a home whose goal is a lower bill, an on-grid system without batteries is usually the better value. If outages are the problem you are solving, hybrid is worth the premium.
The physical installation is usually 1 to 3 days, depending on site size, roof condition and system capacity. The longer part of the timeline is the approval and metering process with your DISCOM, which runs on the utility's schedule rather than ours.
Very little, but not none. Dust, bird droppings and Delhi pollution can cut efficiency by 10–25%, so panels should be rinsed with water and a soft cloth every 2–4 weeks, ideally early morning while they are cool. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive pads.
Modern inverters include monitoring apps showing daily generation, so you can check output against what the system was sized to produce. A sudden drop usually points to shading, soiling, a panel issue or an inverter fault. An annual professional inspection covers wiring, earthing and connections.
