What PM Surya Ghar currently provides

The official Delhi Solar Portal publishes the central assistance as ₹30,000 per kW for capacity up to 2kW and ₹18,000 for the additional capacity up to 3kW. The total is capped at ₹78,000 for systems larger than 3kW.

• 1kW eligible household system: central assistance up to ₹30,000.
• 2kW eligible household system: central assistance up to ₹60,000.
• 3kW or larger eligible household system: central assistance capped at ₹78,000.
• GHS/RWA common facilities have a separate central structure of ₹18,000/kW, subject to the published capacity conditions.

Delhi’s additional residential support

The Second Amendment to the Delhi Solar Energy Policy 2023, notified in the Delhi Gazette on 17 September 2026, raised the residential capital subsidy from ₹10,000 to ₹26,000 per kW up to 3kW, with a ₹78,000 ceiling per eligible consumer. The increase is not new money on top of the old package: the generation-based incentive for new residential installations was discontinued and its value upfronted into this capital subsidy instead. Release and eligibility remain subject to the state portal, DISCOM verification and prevailing operational rules.

• Total subsidy, central and state combined, cannot exceed the project cost. On a ₹1,50,000 3kW plant the gazette’s own illustration shows the state share reduced from ₹78,000 to ₹72,000 so the two together stop at the cost.
• Generation-based incentive is discontinued for new residential and GHS/RWA installations. Consumers who were already receiving it continue to do so; commercial and industrial consumers keep it for five years.
• Electricity subsidy eligibility now turns on gross consumption, including the units your own solar supplies, so installing solar no longer moves a household into a cheaper subsidy slab. Billing itself stays on net metering.
• Do not treat the maximum policy amount as guaranteed until your consumer category and application are accepted.
• Keep the electricity connection name, bank information, identity documents and roof-right documents consistent.
• Commercial and industrial proposals should be evaluated primarily on generation, tariff and payback—not residential subsidy.

Eligibility and equipment checks before paying a vendor

• The applicant should be the eligible electricity consumer or have the required authority and roof rights.
• For subsidy, use a vendor and workflow accepted on the National Portal for the relevant application.
• Domestic Content Requirement and the applicable ALMM requirements must be satisfied where mandated.
• The system must pass DISCOM feasibility, safety, commissioning and net-metering requirements.
• Never rely only on a verbal subsidy promise; preserve portal acknowledgements, invoices, serial numbers and commissioning documents.

Documents commonly needed

• Recent electricity bill and consumer account/CA number.
• Identity proof, registered mobile number and applicant details matching the connection.
• Bank account information required for eligible benefit transfer.
• Roof ownership, co-owner NOC or other permission documents where applicable.
• System proposal, module and inverter specifications, single-line diagram and installation photographs.
• DISCOM inspection, net-metering and commissioning documents produced during the project.
